For the last few days I have been looking more and more at my favorite Sketchers. I knew they have served me well (I have to admit here, more than enough) but somehow I did not want to say "goodbye" to them yet. I put them on yesterday and went for my regular one hour and a half walk with my dog. They still looked good and no one will notice their old signs and I didn’t have to look super nice on a normal dog walk, either. Everything went fine like any other day.
I don’t know if it’s coincidence or not, but this morning I woke up and I felt a sharp pain in my knee! Is it my old shoe or did I do something wrong yesterday? Yes, I sure did. My Sketchers had to go a long time ago but I loved the color, I loved the feel and comfort, I just loved them and couldn’t let go.
Days after days, maybe about 2-3 weeks I was dealing with the doubt - are they ready to go or do they still have one more trip to go. And I said again to myself, "Give them one more day!" and here I was with them again. They went straight into the garbage but now how long it will take me to recover from my knee pain? I should have known better.
6 ways to avoid pain
1. The shoes give you the support you need only for 300-400 miles or up to 12 months depending on the use.
2. When you notice some wear and especially tear - please throw them away for your own good.
3. If you notice any shape change - they are not giving you the support you need even though you may think so.
4. If they do not do their job - the feet and the muscles try to compensate for that, the body creates different mechanisms to cope with this and over time this compensation turns into and becomes "normal" You are already in trouble!
5. You don’t want to injure yourself - sooner or later, without a proper support you will end up hurting - your weakest parts of the body will start screaming!
6. Don’t be sentimental - they are only shoes and they do not last forever. And the next ones you choose will be as great as the old ones but they will give you the comfort and pain free body!
Are you checking your shoes right now? Mine went into the garbage can right after the pain came, but now how long it will take me to recover from my knee pain? I should have known better.
